  1. Thanks for the pictures! I wasn't sure how the fit would be with the drop between the saddle and handlebars, but you look comfortable. As a 6'8" guy, I'm impressed.

  2. To ask an indiscreet question, what was the ballpark total cost of the build? I ask because I am weighing the Gunnar route versus a complete KHS Flite 747.

    1. About $3,600 without the pedals. But it can be built however you like of course. The frame itself was $900.

Just checked out that KHS. VERY cool. Very clever on the 747 name too. I like the 200mm cranks. I am still wondering how they would work for me. Mine are only 180mm. I have read about the benefits of longer cranks for longer legs and it makes sense to me. There is a video on youtube if you are interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVeu5-BqbUE Geometry is also pretty cool with the taller head tube. Let me know which route you decide to go.

  3. Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the blog, I have been using it as a reference for a possible future bike build. I am 6'6", and have been happy with a older 66cm Nishiki, but its 30 pounds and when I do upgrade, I think I'll go for a 68cm gunner, either the roadie or the sport.

FYI, I do have the longer 200mm cranks on my bike, and I love them. If you haven't already, you should check them out. IRD sells "super long cranks" for $120. They take some getting used to, you'll have to use different leg muscles to move through the larger arc, so you have to retrain your legs.

  4. Hi! Late to this one. I'm 6'6" with a long torso. I still have my CAAD 3 66cm C-dale, but I had a Gunnar Roadie made to measure and couldn't be happier. It's equivalent to their 66cm height-wise, but has a long 64cm top tube. I built it with an Alpha-Q Z-Pro(big guy/tandem) fork, Rival gruppo(180mm cranks), Salsa bars(honest 46cm), EA70 110mm stem, EC70 post. It's got Easton Orions on it and weighs around 19# with pedals.
